Introduction
Today we live in a country of roughly 315 million people, of those 315 million people close to one hundred percent have partaken in interpersonal communication with someone of the opposite sex. Of those who have conversed with the opposite sex a majority have been considered to be in a romantic relationship with another person. In the survey American Community published by the U.S Census Bureau in 2010 states there are 60.3 million married couples in the United States of America. This astonishing statistic proves that romantic relationships are a large and vital part of our American culture and society. In a romantic relationship two partners coexist and participate in interpersonal romantic communication on almost a daily basis. Of course, like any relationship, there are good days and bad days. Both of the good and bad days stem from how well the couple is able to engage in effective communication. One purpose of communication is to determine what their reality is. Communication involves the collaboration of two people as they share and examine all of their perceptions, feelings, ideas and thoughts to come to an accurate understanding of what is happening in their current relationship.
