Relationship Communication
Relationship communication is the act of two individuals in a relationship communicating with one another. In order for communication to take place, messages must be sent and received between the two individuals. The messages being sent need to be understood by the receiver or a misunderstanding is likely to take place. Over the course of relationships there are a variety of conversations, some successful, and others unsuccessful. Successful relationships consist of communication that is effective and where both individuals are active and participate. Effective communication consists of many components that the individuals in the relationship need to recognize. It is important for people in relationships to be aware of the common problems that arise in interpersonal communication. Listening is a key component of effective relationship communication because it is the act of hearing what your partner has to say, and understanding their needs. Lastly, individuals need to be aware of the attachment theory and how it can help or harm their relationship.
